On Thursday I was taken by a friend to go see the up and coming band, The Khans, at the Beatle Bar in Brisbane. The band, who are Sydney based, were in Brisbane supporting fellow Sydney band, Tales in Space for 4ZZZ FM. My friend had not told me much about The Khans, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. However, I quite enjoyed them. They reminded me a lot of Bloc Party and Empire of the Sun. While there was not a large audience at the Beatle Bar, everyone also seemed to really enjoy the music.
The Khans originated in 2009 and have since released an EP which they plan on following up with an LP later in the year . There are 3 band members; Themba on rhythm guitar, lead vocals and synth, Harrison on lead guitar, vocals and octapad and Gibo on bass and vocals. The Khans describe their sound as rock/jungle/dance and are influenced by Van Halen, Bloc Party, The Doors and Regurgitator, just to name a few.
The Khans are definitely a band to keep an eye on. They have over 13 thousand ‘likes’ on Facebook and their music is also available for download on iTunes, so why not check them out. – J
